Dinghy
Instructor Scheme

The HKSF runs the Dinghy Instructor Scheme to provide trained personnel for centres to conduct dinghy courses for members and the public. 

Competent sailors who are interested in teaching sailing doing a Dinghy Instructor Course must attend and pass a one-day Pre-Entry Assessment conducted by an HKSF Dinghy Trainer not more than one year prior to the instructor training.

HKSF Pre Entry Assessment

Before attending an HKSF Instructor Course, candidates must have attended and passed a Pre-Entry Assessment conducted by an HKSF Dinghy Trainer not more than one year prior to training.

Instructor Pre-Entry Assessment and Criteria

HKSF Dinghy Instructor Course 

A Dinghy Instructor is a competent and experienced dinghy sailor, capable of sailing a dinghy confidently in strong winds, who has been trained to teach Level 1-3 of the HKSF Dinghy Certificate Scheme.

HKSF Senior Dinghy Instructor Course

The HKSF Senior Dinghy Instructor is an experienced instructor who has been trained to orgainise and manage sailing courses within the HKSF Dinghy Certificate Scheme. He/she is able to teach Level 1-4 of the HKSF Dinghy Certificate Scheme. In order to teach Racing and/or Say Sailing Skills he/she must hold the Dinghy Racing Instructor Endorsement and/or Day Sailing Instructor Endorsement Certificate.

COURSE DURATION 
5 Days OR
2 long weekends (eg. Friday evening to Sunday evening)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Candidates should be aged 21 or above.
  2. Candidates must hold a valid HKSF Dinghy Instructor Certificate and have recorded at least 2 years of active teaching experience (as recorded in the HKSF Logbook)
  3. Candidates must hold a valid First Aid Certificate
  4. Candidates must hold a valid Pleasure Vessle Operator Grade 2 certificate
  5. Candidates must hold the HKSF Safety Boat Handling Certificate

HKSF Dinghy Racing Endorsement Course

The HKSF Dinghy Racing Instructor is an HKSF Dinghy Instructor of Senior Dinghy Instructor with the appropriate racing experience who has been trained to teach racing skills through the Racing Skills Course of the HKSF Dinghy Certificate Scheme. If he or she is an HKSF Dinghy Instructor, he/she must teach the Racing Skills Course under the supervision of a Senior Instructor.

HKSF Dinghy Trainers Programme

The HKSF Dinghy Trainer is an experienced senior instructor who has been trained to teach HKSF Instructor Courses, Assessments, help run Clinics and Workshops, and carry out Inspections for HKSF Recognised Centres. He/she is available to mentor Instructors, and to contribute to the sport of sailing in Hong Kong by means of voluntary work, as and when possible. For example, helping at outdoor promotional events, shows and schools.

HKSF Keelboat Instructor Course

COURSE DURATION 
5 Days

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Candidates should have at least five years keelboat sailing; or
  2. Candidates must be active keelboat racers who have taken part in national or international competitions.
  3. Holder of a valid First Aid Certificate and a valid Pleasure Vessel Operator Certificate of Competency issued by Marine Department.
