“This is the greatest honour I have received so far at the Hangzhou Asian Games! Thank you, Team HKG Sailing — 3 Silver and 2 Bronze!” – A message from our Honorary President Karl Kwok
The Hong Kong national sailing team won one silver and one bronze medal, and achieved the best results in the history of the Hong Kong sailing team at the Asian Games.
The women’s ILCA 6 sailor Stephanie Norton, who won the silver medal, and the bronze winning 49er sailors Akira Sakai and Russell Aylsworth, certainly made us proud. The other sailors in the sailing team make us equally proud.
Men’s ILCA 7 sailor Nicholas represented Hong Kong at the Asian Games twice, finishing 7th in the last one. He made significant improvement this time, but missed the chance to compete for the top three due to the cancellation of the medal race. In the end, he finished fourth and was so close to the podium.
Sandy Choi and Maddalena Di Salvo in the 49er Fx team have just been training together for less than a year, and their level is already comparable to other Asian teams.
Alex Leung, the first and only kiteboarder in the Hong Kong team, has only been in the team for 2 years, and is now already representing Hong Kong at the Asian Games.
Last but not least, the two young ILCA 4 sailors Daniel Chean and Ziyan Huang. Daniel’s results had always been very close to those of the 3rd-placed and 4th-placed sailors.
Thank you to all sailors for their hard work, we are very proud of you.
