Organised by the HKSF and co-organised by the Hong Kong Laser Class Association, the Hong Kong Laser National Championships 2024 finished over the weekend (20th – 21st Jan).
The event lasted for two days. The first day of the racing was quite full of challenges. The first race was originally scheduled to be held at 11 am. Unfortunately, due to a lack of wind, the AP flag was displayed on the shore. The sailors could only stay on the shore and wait. The AP flag was removed at around 11:30 am and sailors could officially set off.
The racing area was originally scheduled to be the waters around Repulse Bay to Chung Hom Kok. Unfortunately, due to the uncertain wind direction and lack of wind, the AP flag was displayed again on the sea. The racing area later moved to near Stanley Bay, and the first race officially started at about 1:30 pm.
After completing two races, the wind dropped. It is quite challenging for sailors to sail in low wind. At that time, the AP over A flag was displayed and the third race was postponed.
On the second race day, the temperature was cooler and the wind strengthened a lot, with wind speeds reaching 6 to 10 knots. Four races were successfully completed.
