Congratulations to Kay Rawbone, Co-Founder and CEO of Sailability Hong Kong and council member of HKSF, for receiving the British Empire Medal for co-founding Sailability Hong Kong with her late husband Mike.
The British Empire Medal awarded by Consul General Brian Davidson is “for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown”.
Kay founded Sailability with Mike in November 2009 when they personally donated the first 2 boats to the charity.
Sailability now has 37 boats and from November 2009 to the end of May 2023 over 18,000 individuals from the Hong Kong community have sailed with them and of these over 14,000 were sailors with a disability. Sailability programmes include ethnic minorities, young and older people, people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, as well as people with life challenges and disabilities.
