The Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2024 incorporating the 29er Asian Championship started on 30th January.
The opening ceremony of the Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2024 incorporating the 29er Asian Championship was held at Middle Island on 31st January, which also marked the official start of the 5-day event. We invited a number of VIPs and guests to the opening ceremony, including the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Sports Institute Mr Tony Choi Yuk-kwan, Senior Leisure Manager (Sports Development) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department Ms Alice Ho, Vice-chairman of the Chinese Yachting Association Mr. ZHANG Ji Wen, Deputy CEO of Sun Hung Kai & Co Ltd., Mr Tony Edward, Vice President of the Sailing Federation of Hong Kong, China Mr David Fan, Commodore of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Ms Lucy Sutro, and the Chairman of the Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week Mr Peter Davies.
Peter Davies and Lucy Sutro shared their opening speeches at the ceremony, which was followed by dragon and lion dance performances, and the God of Wealth distributed Dragon dolls and gold coins were given to the attendees. It was very lively.
Over 270 sailors from 10 countries and regions competed in Hong Kong Race Week this year. They competed in 10 fleets , including 29er, 2.4mR, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, Optimist Main & Optimist Intermediate Fleets, RS Feva and the development fleets of Optimist, Fusion, and Laser Pico Green Fleets. In the past year, we have actively strengthened co-operation and exchanges with mainland China. We are pleased to see that one-third of the total participants were from mainland China this time.
After 5 days of racing, the prize giving ceremony was held on 4th February. We were honored to invite the Honorary President of the Sailing Federation of Hong Kong, China Dr. Karl Kwok, Deputy CEO of Sun Hung Kai & Co Ltd. Mr Tony Edward, Commodore of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Ms Lucy Sutro and the President of the Sailing Federation of Hong Kong, China Ms. Meihan Cheung to be our Honourable Guests for the prize giving ceremony.
