Announcement regarding the 64th FOS Open Dinghy Regatta

Festival of Sport Open Dinghy Regatta on Saturday (26/6) started windless, with low cloud hanging over the race area. At 12:30, the wind started to pick up, but with threat of thunderstorms, the decision was made to cancel. After the rain squall passed, the wind died and the HHYC Saturday series start was also abandoned.

Sunday (27/6) brought much more promising conditions with a forecast of 10kt from the southwest. At 10:30, the marks started going on, but a series of rainstorms forced a delay to the start and a series of 180 degree wind shifts followed. Finally at 13:30 it looked like we could get some racing away. A few mins after all the boats had started, the wind died and shifted right by 90 degrees forcing the team to abandon racing for the day.
Summer sailing in Hong Kong is often a wind lottery – let’s hope for better conditions next time.

We would like to thank all the competitors, ROs, the volunteers, Hebe Haven Yacht Club and Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club for their support.

We hope to see you next time.
