ILCA Worlds selection announcement

by | 28/01/2025 | Uncategorized

For 2025 we are facing the issue of having more Hong Kong sailors apply for the ILCA 4 U18 Worlds and the ILCA 6 U19 Worlds than there are available quotas for Hong Kong by ILCA. This is a positive problem to have as it is a strong sign of the growth of the ILCA class in Hong Kong in recent years and the great job being done by HK ILCA. However the current system in place for ranking the applications at ILCA class events does not permit for sailors that are eligible to compete in both ILCA 4 & ILCA 6 to acquire a ranking in both classes. This issue is preventing HKSF from selecting and sending the best possible combination of eligible HKG sailors to each of the ILCA Class Worlds.

It is our decision for this season in order to have a fair, impartial selection, giving equal opportunity to every eligible sailor for each event that we will use two regattas as “ranking events”.

With that in mind the results of the:

– 2025 ILCA Nationals will be used to rank the applications for the 2025 ILCA6 U19 Worlds.

– 2025 HK Race Week will be used to rank the applications for the 2025 ILCA 4 Worlds.

– In case any of the events does not happen (doesn’t constitute a series) the existing ILCA ranking list will prevail for that World Championship.

This way any sailor eligible and interested in both World Championships for 2025 will have the opportunity to compete and fight for his / her spot.

For the following seasons and as sailing continues to grow in Hong Kong we will work closely in cooperation with HK ILCA to establish a permanent system forward that is fair and gives equal opportunity to every sailor eligible to represent Hong Kong in any ILCA event.
